Tokenwise

Frequently asked questions

General

Tokenwise is a native macOS menu-bar app that shows your AI coding usage and estimated cost at a glance. It supports both Claude Code and the OpenAI Codex CLI, presenting daily token trends, per-model and per-project breakdowns, Codex rate-limit gauges, and estimated cost (¥/$) side by side in one view.

Features

They are estimated from token counts using a built-in, user-editable price list. You can edit the prices yourself and switch between USD and JPY. The figures shown are estimates and may differ from your provider’s actual bill.

Pricing

It is ¥500 as a one-time purchase. There is no subscription and no in-app purchases — you buy it once and that’s it.

Technical

It is one click. Each provider has a "Connect" button that opens the macOS file picker — just choose "Allow Access" once. Access is read-only and is stored as a sandboxed security-scoped bookmark that you can revoke at any time inside the app.

No account is required and there is no sign-in. The app works offline for everything except downloading public model pricing.

Privacy

No. Tokenwise reads only numeric metadata — token counts, model names, timestamps, and project folder names. It never reads your prompts, conversation contents, code, credentials, or configuration secrets.

No. Tokenwise has no servers and never receives your data. Its only outbound request downloads public model pricing (LiteLLM), and it sends none of your data when doing so.

iCloud sync is off by default and entirely opt-in. When enabled, it shares only numeric daily token and cost totals — never prompts, code, project names, or file paths. The data lives in your own private iCloud account, which the developer cannot access.
