Data Not Collected

Tokenwise has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking — we never receive any of your data.

Overview

Tokenwise has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking — we never receive any of your data. Your usage data stays on your Mac.

There are only two exceptions, both of which you control:

  • Tokenwise downloads public model prices.
  • Only if you turn it on, it syncs numeric usage totals through your own private iCloud.

What Tokenwise reads

When you grant access, Tokenwise reads only the local usage-log files written by the AI command-line tools you already run. Specifically:

  • The JSON logs under ~/.claude/projects (Claude Code CLI, ~/.claude/projects/**/*.jsonl)
  • The logs under ~/.codex/sessions (OpenAI Codex CLI)

You choose these folders yourself via the macOS file picker. Access is stored as a sandboxed security-scoped bookmark that you can revoke at any time in the app.

What data it uses

Tokenwise uses only numeric usage metadata, namely:

  • Token counts
  • Model names
  • Timestamps
  • Project folder names

It uses these to compute token totals and estimated costs. Cost figures are estimates from a built-in, user-editable price list and may differ from your provider’s actual bill.

What it does not read

Tokenwise does not read any of the following:

  • Prompts or conversation contents
  • Credentials
  • Configuration secrets

It also contains no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs.

Network

Tokenwise’s only outbound network request downloads public model pricing (LiteLLM). It sends none of your data.

Optional iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off by default and entirely optional. If you turn it on, Tokenwise shares only numeric daily token and cost totals, so usage from your Macs combines in one view.

It never syncs prompts, code, project names, or file paths. This data lives in your own private iCloud account — the developer has no access to it and never receives it.

Data storage & deletion

Aggregated results and your folder bookmark are stored locally inside the app’s sandbox. Deleting the app or using "Reset access" removes them.

App Privacy

Tokenwise collects no personal data (App Privacy: "Data Not Collected"). Anything you sync stays in your own iCloud account, not the developer’s. Rated 4+.
